We are preparing to launch a design competition, with the University of Strathclyde, for final year degree architecture students to produce masterplan concepts for a maritime park at Govan Graving Docks.
We have developed a broad brief for the competition that will run during the 2017-18 academic year.
We would like to hear from professional architects interested in taking part in a judging panel or steering group, as well as hosts who can potentially provide venues for a series of public exhibitions.
The design competition entries will be displayed in a public venue (or series of venues) to enable community and stakeholder feedback. This feedback along with the competition entries will be used to inform the preparation of a brief for a formal masterplan for regeneration of the graving docks. We aim to present a masterplan to Glasgow City Council by the end of 2020.
The competition judging will run separately from any academic assessment of the students' work. The results will also not have a direct single influence on the development of a formal masterplan - with the final masterplan brief potentially taking in a range of the students' ideas.
We aim to introduce a range prizes for winner and runner up students and are in the process of seeking sponsors who will be able to provide these. Awards may include cash prizes, non-cash prizes, career development support, internships, etc.
